Can You Hear Me Now?

It has been a few days since I started to watch reviews for microphones and recorders for broadcasting. I can get a reliable and well-performing microphone for about 300 Canadian dollars. I’ve been looking at the Rode NT1 Condenser Microphone Cardioid.

My Canon DM-100 Directional Stereo Microphone for the video recording does a good job if the subject is 20 feet away. Not at all suitable for my purpose. I’m also looking at a Zoom H6 Handy Recorder with Interchangeable Microphone System. The connoisseurs say that its performance is very good considering its price.

Why am I looking for microphones and recorders? I think it’s time to put the artist to work and achieve something else in the process. Poem films are starting to spread. Here is an example:

This is why I decided to share two more poems here. It is, after all, a blog about poems. They are both older poems, published in Agora, following a sweet-tasting gold medal at the creative writing section, about three years ago.

arrangement in rain-fall sharp

at midday
the city burrows under
sky’s carapace
of light grey watercolor

sun is a round bundle
of fog
vaguely smudged
with asphyxiated glow

upturned chandeliers
of concrete haze
spill glimmering processions
of wet needles
to toil over embroidered clouds
afloat on watery mirrors
and stitch up
mother-of-pearl landscapes
on close-up horizons

rain pilfers colors
from sights polka-dotted with umbrellas
and quilts them on wet city asphalt
in patches
of daisies and cornflowers
poppies and buttercups
violet shooting stars

all afternoon
flute symphonies
on my window sill
charming chimes hanging from roof eves

all afternoon
plays violins in my ears

I recorded my other poem in digital format. My intention is to turn it into a short video. Right now I’m fighting the site: I uploaded the file to my site but I cannot get it to show here with any of the plugins I have tried. I am sure though that soon I will figure it out. Meanwhile, I’ll publish the other poem in text form, just like the one above.

the wind’s wheeze
carries chanted whispers
beware the witch

down by the weeping willow
the will-o’ the wisp prowls
in trance
the writhing worm
grows still
dogs howl
at a moonless sky

strained pupils
hold visions of branches
like hands reaching out
the fortune-teller’s tent
is waiting

blind – the old gipsy sees
the crystal eyeball
stalking fate

dark curses — the crows
cross in murders
a lead sky

warned by the candle’s wilting wick
stray fortune-seekers
murmur prayers

shuush – listen now

times three
cock’s crow – shrill –
cracks night’s shell
and tears the darkest shroud of shadow
dispels unholy spirits
into hollows
calls light
to lift off spells

I will probably make my film poetry with the Zoom H6 but for the future I keep an eye on my dream recorder – the 688.

688 from Sound Devices 12-Input Field Production Mixer with 16-Track Recorder & Dugan Automixing

And how about a Red Epic Dragon to go with it? What a dream….

Red Epic

Hey! Why not go for it? Dare to dream!
